Friends of Wilderness Road State Park

The Friends of Wilderness Road State Park is a non-profit organization of private citizens, businesses, civic groups and students, all of whom are dedicated to the continuing growth and development of Wilderness Road State Park. We provide assistance to the park and its staff by supplying funds, materials and labor for park projects, including development of park facilities, programs and special events. We seek funding from state and local government, and we accept contributions from foundations, businesses and individuals.

Wilderness Road Heritage Festival, held annually (in conjunction with Martin’s Station’s Fall Encampment) on the second Saturday of October. We also sponsor the park’s most popular living history program, Virginia: America’s First Frontier, as well as its most popular holiday event, Pumpkins in the Park, a Halloween celebration. We also assist the park with other programs and events such as Easter at the Karlan Mansion and Karlan Christmasfest: Parade of Trees.

We invite you to become a “Friend” and join us in making this park and its facilities a living part of our regional history, as well as a major attraction at the National level. We currently meet the third Monday each month at 6 p.m. in the Visitor Center. Please join us!

Virginia for Liberty – Gone for a Soldier” fundraising project

The Friends of Wilderness Road State Park are excited to announce the “Virginia for Liberty – Gone for a Soldier” fundraising project. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own handmade accouterments just like those used by Virginia’s revolutionary heroes. Reproduced by some of the nation’s most talented artists, the project pieces are influenced by original 18th-century items used in Virginia during America’s fight for independence. Be a part of this unique celebration of our nation’s founding as we perpetuate 250 years of history through art.
